Full-Service Interior Design for Estate Homes
Atherton and Hillsborough homes present a particular design challenge: they are often large — sometimes very large — and the goal is to make them feel not just grand, but genuinely warm and livable. We approach estate-scale interiors with the same philosophy we bring to every project: rigorous attention to proportion and composition, layering of furniture, antiques, and contemporary pieces, and a deep focus on how each space will actually be used and experienced.
Our full-service process covers architectural millwork and built-ins, custom cabinetry, material and finish selections, bespoke furniture design, lighting, art consultation, and complete procurement and installation management. For new construction projects, we engage from the earliest design development phase — working alongside the architect to ensure the interior architecture and design vision are integrated from the ground up.
A Layered, Timeless Approach
Layering is at the core of our studio. We consider proportion, materiality, light, texture, and composition to create interiors that feel refined, livable, and deeply personal. By blending contemporary furnishings with traditional elements and meaningful pieces collected over time, we create homes that transcend trend.
Designing for Atherton & Hillsborough
The residential architecture of Atherton and Hillsborough is exceptionally varied — from traditional Colonial and Tudor Revival estates to mid-century California ranches and sleek contemporary custom builds. Our approach is always calibrated to the specific home: we don’t impose a signature aesthetic, but instead respond to the architecture, the landscape, and the way our clients actually live.
Across these projects, we often work with clients who want their homes to feel sophisticated without being stiff — spaces that are elegant and layered but still comfortable for families, for entertaining, and for daily life. That balance is exactly what we do best.

FAQ
-
Two things: design quality and organizational depth. Estate projects require both exceptional design vision and the project management infrastructure to execute it — managing long timelines, multiple contractors and vendors, custom fabrication, and complex installations simultaneously. We have built a practice that excels at both, and our clients consistently tell us that the process felt clear, calm, and well-managed throughout.
-
Yes. New construction is a core part of our Peninsula practice. We work best when engaged early — during design development, before framing — so that architectural details like millwork, ceiling heights, window placement, and built-in cabinetry can be designed in coordination with the interior vision from the start. Late-stage engagement is also possible, and we are experienced stepping into projects mid-stream.
-
Yes. In addition to Atherton and Hillsborough, we work throughout the Peninsula — including Woodside, Portola Valley, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Burlingame, and Los Altos Hills. See our Peninsula interior design page for more on our full geographic coverage.
